SAN DIEGO, Calif. July 17, 2008 -- Interview with CEO Raj Lahoti of OnlineGURU Inc. today is featured on Ecommerce Podcast.
Lahoti discusses how his Internet marketing/Web publishing company and its sites got their start with interviewer Shaun Ryan, CEO of SLI Systems. As a leader in the industry, OnlineGURU has garnered much attention in the Web world with its flagship site, DMV.ORG: The Unofficial Guide to the DMV.
As a successful entrepreneur who's been surfing the Web since age 5, Lahoti hits on a number of interesting topics: growing up online, starting a Web site as an adolescent and a company soon after high school graduation. He also discusses at greater length his experience with Google, traffic, vertical search, usability, Web analytics, how OnlineGURU's sites attract nearly 70 million users a year, and where he and his Gurus plan to take DMV.ORG and the numerous other domain names held by the company such as United States.org and Classifieds.org.
"We're doing a lot of cool things, but DMV.ORG is the number one site for us that we're focusing on. It's the site that all the users really go to, or 99% of them. Rather than just creating other sites and just diversifying that way, we're really trying to create DMV.ORG and all the different components of it, like search, DMV.ORG Local, DMV.ORG Answers," Lahoti says.
During the interview, Lahoti also discusses the component OnlineGURU is most heavily focusing on. "We found that the search is just so powerful," Lahoti says. "We're finding more and more every day that the more we concentrate on making search a much better experience, the better we're going to be able to satisfy almost everyone," he says.
Ranked among the Top Five automotive sites and Top 300 sites in the United States, DMV.ORG is a comprehensive guide to the DMV in all 50 states. It provides simplified information on how to take care of DMV-related transactions through each state's motor vehicle department. In addition, the site offers information and services on all facets of the driving experience.
"As long as you can create something that's useable, that has a great experience, if it has value to the user, it is going to spread, like wildfire," Lahoti adds.
Lahoti also discusses OnlineGURU's newest brand, Classifieds.org. This aggregate site features nearly 20 million listings for merchandise and services. It's a well-stocked, online marketplace offering everything from big-ticket items such as luxury yachts and real estate to everyday items such as skincare products and cookware.
